AGAWAM – In message sent out the families of Agawam Public School students, Superintendent Sheila Hoffman announced that schools will pivot to remote learning until Jan. 4, 2021.

Within that message, Hoffman said that as of Dec. 9, Agawam has over 100 active cases in isolation, with 10 active cases in the school community. Three of these cases were remote-only individuals, according to Hoffman.

“Staffing of buildings is getting increasingly difficult for building administrators, as many adults are home quarantining, caring for children whose schools are not open for in-person learning, or awaiting test results,” said Hoffman.

Hoffman said that based on the number of cases within the school community, there is no reason for an “abrupt pivot.”

School and district buildings will remain open during this time.

The Agawam Education Association did not respond to requests for comment as of press time.
