AGAWAM – The Agawam School Committee hosted a meeting on Feb. 26 at the Agawam Junior High School in Feeding Hills. At the meeting, 158 students were recognized and awarded the Agawam Academic A award.

The Agawam Academic A, an annual presentation originating nearly two decades ago, recognizes Agawam students who maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during their freshman, sophomore, junior, and first-semester senior years.

“I’m proud to report that the number of recipients of this award has continued to grow over the years with 158 students being honored this evening,” Superintendent Steven Lemanski said.

Lemanski continued, “This growth can be attributed not only to the hard work of students, but also their teachers, administrators and parents who stress the importance of academic excellence.”

City Councilors George Bitzas, Paul Cavallo, Joseph Mineo, Dino Mercadante and Cecilia Calabrese were present at the event. Also in attendance were Agawam High School Assistant Principals Susan Schoenberger and Susan Feyre.

Agawam High School Principal Thomas Schnepp began the presentation. “We are excited to acknowledge the accomplishments of these students. We appreciate their perseverance for these four years and certainly appreciate your support that you’ve given them over these four years as well. They’ve done a lot of great things and we’re now reaching that stage of starting senior activities. I encourage the seniors to cherish these last few months and continue to make great memories,” Schnepp said.
