AGAWAM – JJ’s Soft Serve and More, located on 336-338 N. Westfield St. in Feeding Hills, will officially be open for their 2021 season starting on March 12.

According to Frank Montagna, co-owner of JJ’s, the store will only be open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 3 to 8 p.m. until April 1. After April 1, the business will be open for seven days a week again.

Along with the reopening comes a list of developments that the store is currently preparing for. Montagna said that, in addition to their 88 flavors of soft serve ice cream, JJ’s will also be able to serve a variety of different dairy-free ice cream and no-fat yogurt options. The store will be able to serve additional milkshake flavors with their new milkshake machine, as well.

“We’re also looking to add in new flavors from our hard ice cream line,” said Montagna, who also added that their ice cream pie options will once again be available, custom-made. People can pick and choose whatever items they want on the pie.

Outside of these services, Montagna explained how the store continues to adjust under COVID-19 guidelines. “We’re continuing off of things we learned last year through COVID,” said Montagna.

JJ’s plans on “making in safe” inside the store by making orders more efficient. In 2020, the store gave customers the option to order what they want through phone, which is something Montagna wants to implement again this year.

“It seemed to work pretty good, so we’re going to try and make that more efficient,” he said.

The owner continued by saying that JJ’s always made an effort to keep the premises sanitized, even before the pandemic struck.

“We were already doing all of the sanitizing and the extra work that needed to be done behind-the-scenes,” said Montagna.

The store has made some interior changes as well, like new artwork, as well as a more efficient menu that is easier to read. The goal is to make sure people can order efficiently while following social distancing guidelines.

Montagna added that the store’s loyalty program, which allows customers to accumulate points for the possibility of free items, will be once again be available, along with their gift card program.

“When we close in the winter, it kind of builds up excitement both from us as well as customers,” said Montagna. “We’re just excited to get back there again and see our customers.”
