AGAWAM – The Community Room at the Agawam Public Library is now “The Judith Clini Community Room.” It was renamed in honor of the now-retired library director at a ceremony on July 11.

“It's extremely exciting but it’s humbling,” Clini said of the honor. About 50 people celebrated the occasion at the reception.

A portrait of Clini was unveiled at the event, after which Mayor Bill Sapelli read a proclamation honoring her “50 years of dedicated service.”

“Time will never erase the work you have done here and the lives you have touched with your positive approach,” said Sapelli. Among the honored guests were members of the City Council and State Rep. Nick Boldyga and State Sen. Don Humason, who also read proclamations congratulating Clini on the honor.

Clini began her career in library sciences when she was in high school in 1967 and through her time at Westfield State. She took a few years off to have a family but returned to work at the library. Clini became the Agawam Public Library Director in 2002.

“I've always enjoyed being able to help people,” said Clini. She said that she loves that the resources are free and open to everyone, from any background, equally.
