AGAWAM – The Robinson Park Elementary School Seventh Annual 5K Techno Trot Road Race and 2 Mile Family Fun Walk took place on April 7. The goal of the event is to raise money for funding of STEAM programs at Robinson Park Elementary School.

Walkers and runners took over the streets surrounding Robinson Park Elementary School in support of raising money for the STEAM initiative at the school. Children and adults alike came out to show their support.

Kerry Cordis, Robinson Park School Parent Volunteer and Robinson Park School Techno Trot Chair, shared “This event was created to promote healthy living within our community as well as benefit the science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics programs at Robinson Park School.”

During the first two Techno Trot events, enough funding was raised to allow for the purchase of Epson BrightLink learning systems for each classroom and 36 Google Chromebooks for students to use in school. This year, $4,800 was raised for the STEAM programs.

Cordis said that the promotion of STEAM in the classroom is important. “STEAM is a way to educate our students how all things relate to each other in school and real life. It encompasses fun with traditional learning styles and appeals to varied learning levels and interests,” Cordis said.

Michael Shea of Westfield completed the run first with a time of 19 minutes. Close behind Shea was Glen Meisenhelder of Feeding Hills with a time of 19 minutes and 12 seconds.

Sponsors for the race included presenting sponsor FAIC Group, OMG Inc., Agawam Crossing Dental, Sears Realty, Jumpstart Preschool, Lambert & Pryor Insurance, Next Fitness/Crossfit Catch, Stateline Video Games and The Back Room Bar & Grill.   

Museum, Cinemark, JJ’s Ice Cream, Optimum Health Therapeutic Massage, Studio One Salon, Feeding Hills Music Academy, Glowtique and Panera.

Cordis said that the 2019 event was an overall success. “It was such a fun and healthy community event for the whole family. We are so lucky for the support from our sponsors, volunteers and the community support,” Cordis shared.
