AGAWAM – The city of Agawam has welcomed a new restaurant on 7 South End Bridge Circle.

Napoli’s Pizza officially opened to the public on Jan. 5, and is currently making headway off of the South End rotary that connects Springfield, West Springfield and Agawam.

Danny Matias, the manager at Napoli’s, told Reminder Publishing that Napoli’s talked to businesses around their location, and found that many people who worked in the South End wanted a restaurant that was easily accessible to them during lunch time.

“We talked to a couple people here, and a lot of the businesses around us were sad that there wasn’t anything local that they can come to,” said Matias.

According to Matias, who has been in the restaurant business for 29 years, the process of opening the restaurant took a couple of months. With COVID-19 being a burden on many small businesses, Matias said that the restaurant’s main focus right now is taking care of healthcare workers in the area.

“We hit the hospitals, and it’s helped out,” said Matias. “I’ve gone to the nursing homes and dropped off menus there. At the hospitals, we’ll donate 10 pizzas.”

In a market that features many local pizza and grinder restaurants, Matias said that their establishment prides itself on customer service, and putting as much effort into their dishes as possible. He said that they put “110 percent” into each dish they make.

“My thing is, I like the feedback from the customers,” said Matias. “If you like it, if you don’t; what can I do to make it better? Because at the end of the day, we’re here for them.”

Most days, Napoli’s will have food on display in the front of the counter, so as to try and encompass every corner of their menu. For example, the restaurant will promote their calzones or many different styles of pizza, such as chicken Florentine, buffalo chicken, or veggie. They update what is on display regularly on their Facebook page.

Throughout the years, Matias worked in the food and beverage industry inside various hotels, one of them being the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem. After being out of work for two or three months due to COVID-19, the manager said that it was important for him to reconnect with customers in the food business.

“I just like to get out and interact with people, and have conversations with adults, instead of video chatting” said Matias. “It’s our new norm, but if you see me, I deliver with gloves on, and I give the customers space. And it’s worked out great.”

The goal for 2021, according to Matias, is to get the word out about the restaurant to as many people as possible.

“I want our staff out here to be proud of the product they put out there,” said Matias. “You have your ups and downs, but you try and do the best that you can.”

Napoli’s Pizza is located at 7 South Bridge Dr. and is open 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, visit https://callnapolispizza.com.
