AGAWAM – On Dec. 4, Nutrition First opened its doors to bring healthy smoothies and teas to Agawam.

With high-protein smoothies and energy teas, owner Michelle Mullis Fairman said she is offering a healthy alternative to a fast meal. “Nutrition First is a smoothie and energizing tea bar. It’s a safe, warm, welcoming and positive environment in the community that offers a healthy alternative for a quick meal. We focus on overall health and wellness,” Fairman said.

Nutrition First offers over thirty-one types of smoothies and over thirty-eight flavors of energizing teas. Specials are offered every other day. Each creation has its own name including the boosted teas “Deadpool” and “Tsunami.” The smoothies are flavored after various types of dessert including “Wedding Cake” and “Butterfinger.”

According to Fairman, the smoothies don’t pack the calories of the desserts they are named after. Fairman said, “No worries, they are all under 225 calories.”

After Fairman and her husband struggled with an unhealthy lifestyle for many years, she said they decided to adopt a healthier lifestyle and share their knowledge with the community. “We wanted to bring our knowledge and hope to the community. People want hope that there is a healthy way to turn their life around.”

Fairman shared that there was an important lesson she learned in her fitness journey. “It’s not always about the scale, healthy is mind and body combined,” she said.

According to Fairman, there are health benefits to the smoothies served at Nutrition First. “Our smoothies are a high-protein based beverage with low calories, low carbohydrates and very little sugar. It’s a full meal replacement with twenty-one vitamins and nutrients. It’s good for those on the go who want a healthy alternative to the typical drive-thru,” Fairman said.

Fairman suggests her personal favorites at Nutrition First. She said, “My ultimate favorite smoothie is our ‘Thin Mint Cookie.’ It’s the healthy version of a Girl Scout cookie with only 200 calories.”

Fairman continued, “My favorite energizing tea is ‘Warrior Nation.’ It’s an explosion of lemon lime, mango, watermelon and strawberry lemonade flavor.”

Fairman told Reminder Publishing that she has been happy to meet the community of Agawam. “We love meeting all the new people in town including business owners, high school kids and neighbors. We love hearing how much energy people feel after drinking our teas and how good they feel after having our smoothies. They feel satisfied, energized and happy. They look forward to coming in being welcomed with a smile,” Fairman said.

As Nutrition First continues to grow since its opening, Fairman said she hopes that the business gets the community focused on health. “Our goal is to continue to grow by educating the community on health and wellness, not just on the outside, but on the inside too. We would love to see more business owners do the same. Our society needs us and we need a healthy body and mind,” Fairman said.

Nutrition First also partners with local businesses. Fairman shared, “We partner and do cross promotions with local businesses. It’s our Business Partner of the Week. We are a big supporter of other local business to business. We need each other and support each other.”

Fairman is happy to see a dream she and her husband had realized. “This has been a dream for years and we’re blessed and grateful for the opportunity to share our vision with the community.”
