AGAWAM – OMG, Inc., a global supplier of specialty fasteners and products for commercial roofing and residential construction applications, hosted an open house at its Agawam headquarters on Sept. 8.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., around 100 people wandered through the OMG campus to learn more about the ins and outs of the company. The event was free and open to the public, and included a job fair, variety of family-oriented activities and on-site screening and factor tours. The company also incorporated a giant, multi-employee tag sale. A photo booth, bounce house and face painting station were provided for the children accompanying their families.

“We strongly value our relationship with Agawam – the town has been very good to us so we really value that relationship. To that extent, we have neighbors who live around us interested in what we do and curious about the things we’ve implemented,” said OMG, Inc. Vice President of Human Resources Sarah Corrigan. “So, to have them come in and see what we do first-hand is great for us because we love to be able to answer questions about what we’re doing and how we’re expanding.”

The Agawam OMG campus houses five different buildings and employs 350 workers alone. During the open house, current employees gave guided tours and conducted various product demonstrations. Breakfast and lunch were also served to visitors.

The job fair was a particular hit among the crowd, said Corrigan, which encouraged interested applicants to learn more about the various job opportunities at OMG. The fair provided an opportunity for prospective candidates to meet with the current employees and human resources workers to ask questions and drop off resumes.

The company currently has 30 open positions, ranging from production, to sales and marketing, to engineering and even higher up positions such as vice president.

“We had a really strong interest as far as the recruiting aspect of it went – it was much stronger than it has been in the past. We met a lot of great people who came in to ask us about jobs,” said Corrigan. “We met a lot of very strong candidates and already have people we will be following up with.”

The open house takes place every two years, explained Corrigan, and initially started as a way to connect employee family members with the company.

“The idea is to let our employees bring their families – you can imagine the manufacturing facility is loud and it’s dangerous when things are running, so we don’t usually want people to be near it,” she told Reminder Publishing. “Employees usually can’t bring their families to see where they work. So, we started with that and then we ended up opening it up to the public years ago.”

The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Steel Partners Holdings L.P., operates manufacturing facilities in Masschusetts, Illinois, Minnesota and North Carolina.  The OMG headquarters is located at 153 Bowles Rd. in Agawam, and operates two divisions: OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster.
