AGAWAM – Agawam’s Red Door Theatre is currently searching for a new place to call home.

They have been renting the space at Hope Community Church for over 20 years and are currently looking to purchase a place with about 5,000 square feet, the company’s President Marilene Allen stated.

“The church now needs the space, so we are now looking for a new one. If anyone would like to partner with us or knows of any available space to purchase it will be great to let us know,” Allen said.

They will have access to their current space at the church until Dec. 31.

The Red Door has been closed since the pandemic started last March and has not hosted any virtual events since.

“It’s just not something you can recreate on Zoom. It’s not just about learning how to do a show or putting on a show, it’s about the relationships and that’s one of the things that makes the Red Door so unique, it’s so relational,” Allen said.

Like many other businesses, the pandemic has greatly affected the arts and Red Door Theatre.

“It’s been devastating, if it had not been for the kindness of the Hope Community Church and the patrons, we would not have survived at all,” Allen said.

Due to looking for a new place and changes in staff, the Red Door will not be running a summer program this year but will be hosting summer activities for the Red Door family to get together and have some opportunities to be a community again, Allen stated.

On July 10, they will be hosting a picnic on the hill of the Hope Community Church. There will be live music, and other activities. It is a free event, with more information to be released on their website in the upcoming weeks.

Allen stated the fall program will happen and will look like how they ordinarily look every year. She wants to have a Gala, live theatre, 50s, 60s and 70s sing-along, and their annual Christmas show.

“The Red Door family is still here, alive and kicking and we are hoping to continue on very soon,” Allen said.
