Eight articles await voters at Belchertown's Special Town Meeting

BELCHERTOWN- On March 7 Belchertown residents will vote on eight warrant articles during a special Town Meeting in the Belchertown High School’s gymnasium at 7 p.m.

At press time, the numbers had not been finalized for the expenditures, so the numbers included for each article are estimates.

Article 1 is a request to appropriate over $990,000 to fund the feasibility study for the Jabish Brook Middle School through the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) program. While the initial cost for the feasibility study is high, it will cover the costs of a feasibility study for Jabish Brook and Swift River Elementary School, and the study will be reimbursed at 59.21 percent.

For Article 2, residents are asked to vote to update the town’s personnel bylaw to include the salary range for the human resources director position, the salary for which was yet to be determined by the Personnel Board.

Articles 3 and 4 are requests to transfer $80,964 from available funds to the Interest on Debt Service account and $50,000 Retirement of Debt account respectively.

On Article 5, the Belchertown Fire Department is requesting $21,433 to purchase a new cardiac monitor for one of the ambulances.

For Article 6 the town is requesting a transfer of $225,000 from the Sewer Enterprise Free Cash account to pay for a roof replacement at the Wastewater Treatment Plant building.

Article 7 is a request from the Department of Public Works (DPW) to transfer $40,000 into its Street Constructions account.

Finally, Article 8 is a request to transfer $6,200 from available funds to the Town Clerk Expense account to purchase a new fireproof file cabinet.
