CHICOPEE – The iconic Koffee Kup Bakery has a new home in Chicopee. The bakery has relocated from their original location in Springfield to the former site of Mickey’s Bike Shop, located at 520 East St.

Owner Dino Facente said the move had been planned since he bought the building in March 2020, but with COVID-19, timing was delayed. Koffee Kup Bakery was finally able to open the new location on March 4.

Facente said he was looking for a bigger location for a long time. The Chicopee building offers that, and Facente said they have worked to completely gut and renovate everything before their opening. The building is now equipped with all new electric, new decorations, a skylight and more.

During their renovation, Koffee Kup remained open in Springfield. With the pandemic, Facente said business was slower, but that it has picked up with their Chicopee opening.

“Chicopee has really been open-armed. They were excited for us to get here and, over the course of the year, I think curiosity played a big role here in people coming. They’ve welcomed us,” he said. “It’s just great being welcomed by people, especially during COVID[-19].”

Koffee Kup specializes in birthday cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pies, fruit squares and more. For St. Patrick’s Day, the bakery was selling hot cross buns, Irish bread and rye bread. They will now shift to Easter pastries as the special, said Facente. Everything the bakery serves is made in-house.

“We’re a from-scratch bakery and one of the last ones around,” said Facente.

The bakery has yet to host a grand opening, but Facente said he hopes to have one in April or May. Gov. Charlie Baker has publicly praised Koffee Kup for being his favorite bakery in Western Massachusetts and Facente said he hopes Baker will visit the new location soon.

“Since he’s been the Governor, we’ve built a close relationship where he comes in once in a while when he’s in the neighborhood,” said Facente. “I think we will have a grand opening, maybe April or May, and hopefully we’ll get the governor to come out.”

Baker specifically loves Koffee Kup’s Boston Cream Cupcake.

“He put us on the map for that,” said Facente.

Koffee Kup Bakery is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m to 12 p.m. Those interested in learning more about the bakery are encouraged to visit http://koffeekupbakery413.com/.
