CHICOPEE – The Polish National Credit Union (PNCU) has been a staple of Chicopee since March 21, 1921. The credit union started when 15 men from the area got together and, with only $325 in their pockets, set out to provide customers with a systematic method of savings and low-cost loans. Now coming up on their centennial anniversary, PNCU continues to provide a wide range of financial services, products, and individualized member service to the Chicopee community and beyond.

“Over the past 100 years, PNCU has been able to help individuals, businesses and communities alike.  We have helped families and first time home buyers afford their dream homes; we’ve helped put people through college; and have helped people save for their futures. We look forward to the next 100 years of serving the community,” said Jim Kelly, president and CEO of PNCU, in a press release.

PNCU has expanded to eight branches that are currently located in Chicopee, Granby, Westfield, Southampton, Hamden and Wilbraham. Due to COVID-19, the company won’t be hosting a 100th anniversary celebration. However, those interested in celebrating the credit union are encouraged to visit any of their locations to get a copy of the Polish National Credit Union History Booklet or a 2021 Centennial Calendar.

According to David Fernandes, vice president of retail for PNCU, the credit union hopes to keep expanding its services and connecting with customers for the next 100 years.

The credit union prides themselves on their personalized banking services, said Fernandes. During the time of COVID-19, the credit union has offered appointments so those who need help with savings, an account, 401(k)’s and more can connect one-on-one with a banker.

“It’s really a testament to hard work in the community of Chicopee and, honestly, if you set your ambitions to success, you can definitely get there through hard work and good relationships,” said Fernandes.

PNCU recognizes their 100th anniversary as a great accomplishment and milestone within the company.

“This is a landmark year for the Credit Union. There are few organizations that can say they have been in existence for as long as we have,” said Sarah Mailhott, marketing manager for PNCU, in a press release. “The Credit Union’s founders started the Polish National Credit Union as a way to provide their community with ways to save and borrow. Five generations later and we are still providing exceptional products and services that people count on.”
