EAST LONGMEADOW – The Community Preservation Committee is considering how to extend the rail trail to Jawbuck Lake.

At its meeting on May 3, chair Ralph Page said the town has been approached by the Boston & Maine Corporation about purchasing additional rail line that could extend the rail trail down to almost the Connecticut Line. The new proposed trail would provide access to Jawbuck Lake, an area already owned by the town.

The rail line in question extends on the other side of Denslow Road.

The property in question would be 3.49 acres with an assessed value of $65,000.

Hikers already visit the property and reach it by the rail line.

Page also announced his resignation from the committee and as its chair. He cited needing additional time for his business. He also announced his departure from the Planning Board.
