EAST?LONGMEADOW – Each month 120 to 130 individuals depend on donated goods from the East Longmeadow Food Pantry.

Typically the Food Pantry is well stocked during the holiday season, as the public is more focused on giving. However, when the summer months roll around and vacations are being had, the Food Pantry struggles and is in need of donated goods.

The East Longmeadow Food Pantry is located in the East Longmeadow Council on Aging (COA) at 328 North Main St. Executive Director Carolyn Brennan encourages locals to drop off canned goods and unopened toiletries to the COA to help local families in need.

The top requested items the Food Pantry is in search of include canned whole meal food such as ravioli and stews, canned fruit, tuna, jelly and pasta sauce. In addition, toiletries are needed. Commonly requested toiletries include soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes and toilet paper.

Individuals who need assistance from the East Longmeadow food pantry can meet with Danell Tavella, the COA’s community service director. They will then review financial challenges and need to determine whether or not the individuals can receive aid from the Food Pantry.

To donate, head over to the East Longmeadow Council on Aging and drop off your non-expired goods on the shelf in the entry way. Additionally, at National Night out on Aug. 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the East Longmeadow High School at 180 Maple St., the Highway Department will be hosting a fill–a–truck with donated non-perishable items and canned goods to be sent to the East Longmeadow Food Pantry.
