EAST LONGMEADOW –  The East Longmeadow Lions Club will be hosting a series of events over the next month, including a picnic for the blind, a blood drive and their presence at the 4th of July Carnival.

On June 23 at 11 a.m. the Lions Club is hosting their picnic for the blind at the Pleasant View Senior Center. This year’s picnic is co-sponsored by Hot Table Panini, courtesy of Lion Chris DeVoie. Valley Eye Radio is partnering with the Lion’s to bring individuals who receive Valley Eye Radio’s services a chance to come out, socialize and enjoy the picnic.

The Lions Club will host their final blood drive of the Lion Year at Rocky’s Ace Hardware from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 25.

At the 4th of July Carnival, the Lions will be running their speed pitch as well as collecting donations to replace the lights on the town Christmas tree with the addition of a three-foot star atop the tree. This year will mark the 65th annual lighting for this coming Christmas season.

“We hope to replace all the outdated C–9 bulbs with new high efficiency C–9 LED lights and for the first time in the 65 years of Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, a three-foot star comprised of 300 small LED lights will illuminate the top of the tree,” Lions Club President Paul Cunningham shared.

Donations for the lights and star can be sent to Lion Scott Grabowski at 25 Greenacre Lane in East Longmeadow, or donations can be made in-person at the carnival. Checks can be made payable to Lions Club of East Longmeadow and in the memo write “Tree Lights.”
