EAST LONGMEADOW –  Jeanne Quaglietti was sworn in as East Longmeadow’s Town Clerk at the Oct. 8 town council meeting, though she began the job on Oct. 1. Working for the town is something she deeply enjoys.

“I like dealing with the public,” Quaglietti said. “The town hall is like a public service.” She added that “you really get the idea of what’s going on with the town.”

The town clerk role in East Longmeadow is threefold. As the records access officer,  Quaglietti answers requests for public records, preserves and manages public records, and prepares guidelines to help people make informed requests.

In Quaglietti’s capacity as clerk of the council, she gives notice of council meetings and keeps minutes and supporting documentation for council proceedings.

Finally, she is the head elections official, in charge of voter registration, election officers, preparing ballots, polling places, voting equipment, voting lists, nomination papers and initiative petitions. She also oversees the annual town census.

Additionally, the town clerk serves as a justice of the peace and the office staff provides Notary Public services.

“It’s very busy but very interesting,” said Quaglietti.

Quaglietti told Reminder Publishing that she believes she is East Longmeadow’s first female clerk, something of which she is proud.

She began her career in municipal service when she was on the Monson Arts Council.

“I wanted to start an art camp for kids the town manager mentioned that they were looking for in the recreation department,” said Quaglietti.

Quaglietti had worked for the Town of Monson in the Parks & Recreation Department for nine years. During that time, she served as an assistant town clerk for about a year while the town searched for a permanent candidate.

For the past three years, Quaglietti has worked as an assistant town clerk in East Longmeadow under former town clerk, Tom Florence.

“[Florence] was a wonderful mentor. I really worked closely with him so it made it easy to slide into,” the job, Quaglietti said.
