EAST LONGMEADOW – At East Longmeadow’s Annual Town Election on June 5, the town had the opportunity to vote on three questions.  A total of 1,169 votes were cast out of 11,675 registered voters in town.

Question one passed with 963 votes. Question One was a proposed amendment to Article 2 Section 3 which required the full Town Council be present when choosing a president and vice president to serve a one-year term of office. The present language of the article did not require the full Town Council to be present when choosing new officers. This question was met with 102 no votes and 104 blanks.

Question Two on the ballot passed with 899 yes votes, with 150 no votes and 120 blanks. The question proposed new language to Article 2 Section 6 of the Charter by changing the requirement that the text of any proposed bylaw amendment be published in full if it exceeds 10 column inches of ordinary newspaper notice print. The change was requested because lengthy amendments published in full text can be expensive. The passing of question two will now allow a synopsis of the proposed bylaw to be published, with the printed copies being obtained in the Town Clerk’s office and available on the Town’s website.

Question Three on the ballot passed with 760 votes, 276 no votes and 133 blanks. Question three was a proposed amendment to Article 3 Section 2.1, stating that the Town Manager would be able to appoint, suspend or remove the position of the Town Clerk/Clerk of the Council to the list of positions that are appointed by the Town Manager unless rejected by the Town Council.
