ENFIELD, CT – On June 29, the town of Enfield opened a new contactless drive-thru service center called the Enfield Express located at 800 Enfield St., right next to the Town Hall.

Residents will be able to conduct business without leaving their cars. Town officials unveiled the drive-thru with a ribbon cutting on June 26.

The Enfield Express offers basic tax services Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dog license renewals will also be offered, in addition to being available by mail or drop box.

The Enfield Express will also act as a point of distribution for personal protective equipment (PPE) for the businesses’ that have registered with Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) and the State.

Town Manger Christopher W. Bromson said, “It's a very exciting opportunity and it will be a great benefit to the people of Enfield.”

The idea of the Express started a year ago as part of a large plan for Higgins Park, the area behind Town Hall with a poolscape, indoor stage and performance center with basketball hoops that moves right down the Connecticut River.

With the occurrence of COVID-19, those plans were put on hold. Luckily, one of the aspects of the property was the bank building at 800 Enfield St., which had two drive-thru lanes.

As COVID focus on contact-less service, it came to mind that they needed the property for the park and started negotiating again.

Bromson said, “We’ll assess. When you open anything for the first time, you have to see what works, what doesn’t work, how people like it and adjust accordingly. And that’s what we're going to do.”

Bromson stated the services at Enfield Express will be permanent through the drive-thru and later on some of their recreation and youth will be coming to the location.

He hopes to add more services as they go and enhance according to the needs and desire of the community.

“It’s going to be a mainstay,” Bromson said. “Something we will keep and eventually expand. Those who want to use it and others will become comfortable with it, so that if there is a closure in the future or diminution of services physically in town buildings. We won”t miss a beat because we'll have this outlet and this opportunity for the people.”

Current tax payments and delinquent tax payments will be accepted in the form of cash, check, and card. If you have tax questions or more complex tax issues, please contact the Tax Department at 860-253-6340 and schedule a time for an appointment. Businesses that are registered will be advised of PPE pick up dates and times.
