ENFIELD CT — Enfield native Kat Kennedy has been doing what people dream about, but few accomplish: she has been making her living as a singer-songwriter touring the country and performing her original music.

Now she is hoping friends, family and fans will support her in her effort to raise $10,000 through a Kickstarter campaign so she can underwrite the production of her first album.

She is starting her campaign with a concert on Feb. 9 at Mill 180 Park in Easthampton, MA, that will be “an exclusive, hour-long showcase of my original music accompanied by my full band.” Admission is free.

Once, the Kickstarter page goes live on Feb. 9 she will have 30 days to raise the funding she needs. With Kickstarter she noted, “It’s all or nothing.” If she doesn’t reach or exceed her goal, she won’t get any of the money pledged to her.

She admitted, “It’s kind of scary.”

Kennedy spoke to Reminder Publications about her life and career. Now based in Boston, she attended the Berklee School of Music and upon graduation in 2015 she started traveling and performing with appearances at venues as diverse as Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN, Club Passim of Boston, Bem Dito of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

She told Reminder Publications that she loves traveling and when “the opportunities presented themselves, I just said ‘yes.’”

Kennedy has combined trips for personal reason, such as a wedding in Alaska with performances, Last summer, for instance, she and her sister drove across the count to California and played shows along the way.

“I’ve been really lucky,” she said of her career so far. “I’ve been able to survive and put money back into the business.”

She did admit that life on the road for an independent artist can be “really hard,” but added, “It’s really been so much fun, I’ve had some of the best memories from life … people on tour have been very nice, that helped a lot.”

With the music business broken up in genres, Kennedy said she has to describe her style of music “all the time” to people. She said she is a singer/songwriter with folk and pop sensibilities. Her website, www.katkennedymusic.com, has examples of her work.

She said she is excited about the concert in Easthampton. “It’s the coolest place,” she said and described it as an “indoor park with hydroponic plants. It’s the perfect place.”

Kennedy performs her own music and said the album is written and ready to be produced. If all goes well, it should go into post-production in May.
