ENFIELD — After a three-year hiatus, the Little Sisters of the Poor will bring back their Annual Classic Car Show on June 23 at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Residence at 1365 Enfield St.

This will be their first time hosting this event since COVID-19 struck. The Little Sisters of the Poor are hoping the car show will be a success.

Director of Development Sister Frances said, “We are thrilled to bring back the car show. It’s been three years since we had anything at all outside or inside. The only thing we’ve had were a couple of drive-thrus so we’re glad to get out there, start seeing people and get them to come visit.” Those with vintage cars, antique cars, muscle cars, convertibles or any kind of classic car are invited to participate with a $10 entry fee.

At St. Joseph’s Residence, the Little Sisters of the Poor provide care for elderly residents.

Development Secretary Christina Gordon told Reminder Publishing they have done many fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds for their home. Most of the funds they’ve received for the home and patrons they take care of comes from fundraising. The idea of the car show came from Sister Frances who’s from Michigan and was surrounded by the love of cars. Her grandfather was an inventor of the Paige car in the 1930’s along with Fredrick Osgood Paige who they named the car after. How Sister Frances got the idea was someone gave her a classic car to raffle off. She took it to many car shows and sold tickets.

“I was so surprised that people at the car shows were so nice to us,” Sister Frances said. “They treated their cars with such respect as they did us. I was a little afraid to do this in the beginning but they all made us feel so welcome.”

The event will feature raffles, food, music and a DJ. A sister will walk around and pick the three cars they like best. Patrons can show up with their cars the day of the event or call ahead. All proceeds will help to complete many of the ongoing building projects that are in need of being upgraded and/or replaced. Sister Frances mentioned they’ve lost eight trees due to storms last year and they need to spend some money on replacing the trees and shrubbery for their yard.

“We’re happy we can finally bring the Classic Car Show back” said Sister Frances. “It’s a fun event and people can be a part of our mission.”
