GRANBY — The 2023 Memorial Day parade continued the tradition of the town paying its respects to and honor those who have died while serving in the United States military.

The parade group made up of American Legion members, Granby officials, public safety workers, the student band and scouts marched down to the Veterans Memorial Boulder where a ceremony took place.

Selectboard member Crystal Dufresne spoke to the crowd about the importance of honoring those who lost their lives while serving. Taps was performed after the firing by the Honor Guard.

“It’s a very special moment to remember the fallen and to remember everyone who has served for our country whether they died in battle or afterwards,” Dufresne said.

Following the ceremony, parade participants and residents went to the West Street and Batchelor Street cemeteries for performances of taps after the Honor Guard fired in remembrance of the Granby veterans who have died in combat.
