BRIMFIELD — There’s a new shop on 26 Sturbridge Rd. serving coffee, homemade breads, baked goods from scratch, wraps and sandwiches like the French croque monsieur. Sophie’s Coffeehouse had its grand opening on May 27.

Co-owner and manager Sophie Caulfield happily said, “The grand opening went really well. People loved the food and coffee, and lots of people came. Musician Patrick Fallon played a wonderful set outside by the picnic tables, which added a peaceful aspect to a very busy day.”

Caulfield describes it as a homey, rustic, cozy place with a nice atmosphere for people to come, relax and feel at home. Sophie’s has outdoor seating available, bistro tables on their patio and an enclosed yard area with some patio tables in the back. They brew their breakfast blend from New England Coffee as their drip coffee and carry Lavazza, a creamy bold espresso used for their cappuccinos, Americanos and lattes. Sophie’s also offer flavor and customized options, gluten-free bread and gluten-free options for baked goods.

Caulfield has worked in food service for five years, but never owned her own business. She loves customer service and understanding what makes people happy and what preferences they have. “This is always something that I’ve wanted to do,” Caulfield said. “I met my boyfriend, Jack a couple of years ago who’s in real estate and he was interested in starting something with me as well. We thought about it for a year and decided to do it, so we went out and started looking for places.”

She continued, “We’re from Hardwick, so we’re a little bit away from where we originally were, but we loved Brimfield because of the antique shows and the vibe the show brings. I believe we add to that aesthetic and the type of people who would enjoy our atmosphere because we have all kinds of framed photos, antiques and trinkets to look at while you’re having your meal.”

Caulfield told Reminding Publishing the first couple of months were revamping the place, doing some painting, finding employees, food suppliers and restaurant equipment. Right now, her goal is for customers to like the atmosphere and food. If there’s any feedback she can learn from their first day she hopes to learn that from the customers.

“Jack and I have been planning this for a long time and the past three months have been a whirlwind of everything coming together,” Caulfield responded. “It’s been amazing to see it come to fruition.” She went on to say, “I want Sophie’s to be a nice, familiar place everyone knows about especially for the locals here in Brimfield. I think the people of Brimfield just really want a place that feels like home that they can have as their own.”

Sophie’s Coffeehouse is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays. Visit their sophiescoffeehouse.squarespace.com. For questions call, 413-245-1074 or email sophcaulfield@gmail.com.
