CHESTER – When asked what’s new at the Littleville Fair, President Moe Boisseau, Sr., said the biggest news is that the fair is back, and will be presented on Aug. 6, 4 to 10 p.m., Aug. 7, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Aug. 8, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Admission is $7 for adults and free for children 12 and under.

The Littleville Fair is the first of the local agricultural fairs during the summer. “Time was real short,” Boisseau said, once the state lifted restrictions and said outdoor events could take place this summer. “But things are looking good. “We’re happy to have a country agricultural fair and support all of the kids,” he added.

A new building for exhibits is up thanks to a grant of $25,000 from the Hampden County Improvement League, and volunteers have been working weekends at the fairgrounds every Saturday and Sunday until the fair opens to get ready. Volunteer work parties will be conducted on July 31 and August 1 between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Anyone interested in volunteering may come to the fairgrounds at those times to help.

Boisseau said they have five bands booked and will have music every day for the 2,000 to 3,000 daily visitors.  Featured meals in the dining hall are a goulash dinner on Aug. 6, chicken barbeque on Aug. 7, and a turkey dinner on Aug. 8.

Among the new contests this year will be the Horse and Rider Versatility Competition on Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. – an obstacle course set up to challenge a horse and rider’s adaptability and skill when faced with various obstacles. Horse and rider teams receive a score for each obstacle completed based on the ease and accuracy of the task. The horse and rider team that accumulates the highest score is the winner.

In addition to the annual Truck Pull on Aug. 6 at 5 p.m., also new this year will be an ATV and Side-by-Side Pull on Aug. 7 at 5 p.m.  Rules and classes are available at littlevillefair.com. The Antique Tractor Pull will be held Aug. 8 at 8 a.m.

Other competitions include the Hay Bale Toss, Women’s Fry Pan Toss and Jack ‘n Jill Cross Cut Saw. Visitors can sign up for most competitions at the fair, while most agricultural, craft and animal exhibits must be signed up by Aug. 5.

Fifty/Fifty and other raffles will be held each day, along with six free kids-under-12 bicycle raffles (must be present to win).

Littleville Fair is at 15 Kinnebrook Road in Chester. For specific rules on entries and exhibits and a complete listing of events each day go to www.littlevillefair.com.
