MONTGOMERY – The Montgomery Board of Selectmen (BOS) has voted to start direct personal interaction at town offices on a "by appointment only" basis. The vote, which was taken on May 28, gave a tentative start date of  June 8.

“We are currently installing plexi-glass barriers at office counters, developing protocols for sanitizing common spaces and developing guidelines for the town employees and visitors to follow when interacting at the various town offices,” said BOS Chairman Mike Morrissey, adding that the start date could be affected by any changes in Governor Baker's reopening plans.

Morrissey said people that have situations that require personal interaction can call the town offices at 862-3386 and select the appropriate board, committee or department to request an appointment. However, he said the town is still strongly encouraging the use of electronic documents or conventional mail service to complete transactions.

Included in the decision was the requirement that the town library continue their curbside pick-up and exchange of materials that is currently in effect. Patrons can call or email the library to request materials and schedule a pick time.

The board of selectmen anticipates maintaining this level of service until the state reaches Phase 3 reopening status. At that point, selectmen will review the state's issued guidance and make the appropriate modifications, Morrissey said.
