CHESTER – Moe Boisseau Sr., president of the Littleville Fair Association, was happy with the turnout at the pancake breakfast May 2 at the fairgrounds on Kinne Brook Road.

The breakfast, a feast of pancakes, eggs, potatoes and bacon or sausage, raised money for the Littleville Fair which is slated for Aug. 6, 7 and 8. According to a recent announcement, the officers and directors decided to go forward after “much thought and careful consideration.” Last year’s fair was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Among the pancake breakfast crowd were new Gateway Regional Superintendent Kristen Smidy and her two sons, Steven, and Andrew.  Smidy, who will be starting the position in August, said it was her first time at the fairgrounds.

Boisseau, of Westfield, said between now and August, the association will be working on the grounds and on preparations for the fair to have it ready to go.  He said they will also have a new fair building this year thanks to a grant of $25,000 from the Hampden County Improvement League.
In addition to the usual family-friendly agricultural, craft, and country events and performances, this year’s fair will also feature two new contests; The Flower “Box” Contest and the Largest Zucchini contest.

For the Flower “Box” contest, fairgoers are encouraged to bring and enter flowers they’ve planted in a window box, giant pot, old toolbox “or whatever you’ve got.”  Flower “Box” entries will be placed outdoors throughout the fairgrounds, and the three top winners will be voted on by fair attendees.

All zucchini entries will be weighed and judged with prizes awarded for the top three heavyweights.

Tickets for two raffles to raise money for the 2021 Littleville Fair were on sale at the Pancake Breakfast and will be available from the Littleville Fair Association any time before the start of the fair, as well as at the fair. Drawings for both will take place on the last day of the fair, Aug. 8.

In the Littleville Fair BIG Raffle, purchasers can win either a pair of wooden Adirondack chairs or a five-piece Lodge Cast Iron Cooking set, including an 8” skillet, a 10.25” skillet, a 10.5” griddle, and a 10.5” Dutch oven with lid.  Tickets are $5 for one, or $20 for five.

The prizes for the Littleville Fair Gun Raffle are two good-quality rifles. The first is a Charles Daly 12 Gauge with a 28” barrel, a vented rib-front bead sight and hardwood furniture. The second is a 22 Slug Stainless Camo, a fully rifled, bolt-action slug gun designed for 2 3/4” and 3” shells. Prices for the Gun Raffle are $10 for one ticket or $40 for five ticket.

“Just about all of the fairs are going to try to go this year,” Boisseau said, adding, “We’re happy to have a country agricultural fair and support all of the kids.”
