HOLYOKE — The Holyoke Spring Celebration and Easter Egg Hunt are back in full for the first time since 2019 and families are invited to come to Holyoke Heritage State Park on April 1.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event has been either canceled or readjusted the last three years. Drive-thru egg hunts and versions of the event looking to be cautious of social distancing were the case the last two years but now the Easter Egg Hunt is back in full swing.

Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Maureen Tisdell said it is exciting for the community to be bringing back the tradition that has lasted in Holyoke for decades.

“We’re really excited to bring everything back to Heritage State Park,” Tisdell said. “It’s a huge family event in the community so we’re excited to have all the families and children come out in the open area to do their egg hunt.”

The event will last from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will have four different time slots for different aged children to participate in an Easter egg hunt. Starting at 10 a.m. toddlers will start the egg hunting before 4-6-year-olds at 10:30 a.m., 7-9-year-olds at 11 a.m. and 10-12-year-olds from 11:30 a.m. to till the events ending.

Children are encouraged to bring their own baskets for the rain or shine event. The Easter Bunny will also be in attendance for photos with children and families throughout the morning. The Holyoke Fire Department will also be on location for visits with interested families.

In the downtime outside of hunting for Easter eggs, children can participate in different craft activities, pony rides, balloons and unlimited rides on the merry go round.

“We kind of expanded the event because it has been away for the last four years, so we wanted to bring it back,” Tisdell said.

The Holyoke Children’s Museum will also be open during the event. For more information on the event, call the Parks and Rec office at 413-322-5620 or visit www.holyoke.org.
