LONGMEADOW – One Longmeadow mother is trying her hand at blogging, with her newly launched fashion and lifestyle website, jaimietucker.com. She hopes that her blog will serve as a way to create a community that empowers other women and helps them in feeling their best.

Jaimie Tucker, originally from Vancouver, Canada, moved to Longmeadow after she met her husband in Southern California. Tucker was living in Newport Beach, CA, when she met him there, as he was in town on business.

“I guess you could say I relocated to the East Coast for love,” Tucker laughed.

Tucker has been “in and out of the modeling industry” for most of her life. She credits reading Vogue at 12-years-old for sparking her interest in the field.

“I loved reading about the behind-the-scenes happenings of the shoots, and the magazines themselves, all the creative people behind the images,” Tucker stated.

When she was 13, she began to be approached by modeling agents. She noted that there weren’t many modeling opportunities in Vancouver, so if she wanted to break into the industry, she would have to travel.

“Like most young models, I would have to go to Tokyo or Milan to start a career. My parents weren’t really into that, so I had to wait until I was older and could make the decision to go overseas on my own,” Tucker explained. “I actually went to college a little later than most. It was when I was in my 20s and surrounded by 15-year-old models in Asia that I realized it was time for a change.”

That change, came in the form of going to California State University Long Beach, “as they have one of the top 10 Health Care Management programs in the country,” Tucker said. “I had a passion for business, and the complex world of health care had always intrigued me.”

Following graduation, Tucker began working for a health care consulting company in Los Angeles. She thought that her time in the modeling and fashion world was over, however when Tucker met her husband, got married and relocated to the East Coast, she was scouted again by a casting director in Boston.

“Since I wasn't working at the time, and didn’t really know anyone, I thought it might be a good way for me to meet people and explore the region. I ended up working in places like Boston, Miami, Milan, New York and Montreal over the past several years,” Tucker shared with Reminder Publishing. “With kids it wasn’t easy traveling so much, and I felt I had experienced enough of that lifestyle to make the decision, once my second daughter was born, to wind that stage of my life down. Driving into NYC and Boston from Western MA five days a week was no longer sustainable.”

Tucker and her husband have two young daughters, and are raising their family in Longmeadow. Tucker noted the “real sense of community,” in Longmeadow, and stated that “the whole region is a great place for families” due to the activities that center around children, access to “world-class healthcare,” and Western Mass.’s countless nearby educational institutions.

Looking back to her interest in Vogue at such a young age, she noted how “many people were involved in those projects.” With her new blog, jamietucker.com, however, Tucker noted “it gets kind of crazy because as one person, I am not wearing most of those hats.” She continued to state that now, she is able to have full creative control and a flexible schedule, while doing what she loves.

“I still wanted to create something, and starting a blog allowed me that freedom of expression. Starting a blog would feed my creative needs, yet also maybe help other women by suggesting quick and easy style and beauty tips,” she shared. “I know that it’s like to feel strapped for time and frustrated, as all women do!”

In September, Tucker was invited to attend New York Fashion Week (NYFW). She was invited to an Ann Taylor event in New York City, and decided that she would stop into the Ann Taylor in the Longmeadow Shops to see if there was a dress she could wear. Tucker explained that she began to chat with the store manager, Jessica, and she explained that she was a style blogger heading to NYFW. Jessica asked if Tucker would be interested in collaborating on an event, which came to fruition in early November.

“There are so many talented and lovely women in our area, and it was really incredible to have so many of them gathered in one place, meeting one another and chatting,” Tucker shared of the Ann Taylor event. “There was also a lot of shopping that went on, and everyone had a blast.”

Reflecting back on New York Fashion Week, Tucker states the experience was “amazing.”

“I ran into people I worked with 15 years ago when I first started out a model. It felt like I was coming full circle, and I met so many wonderful people,” she shared.

When it comes to her new blog, Tucker explains that women should seek out her site because she offers affordable and easy fashion finds, sale information and lifestyle and beauty hacks.

“I aim to share style and beauty inspiration that will help empower other women to make the most of their day. As a busy mom of two young children, I’m always looking for hacks to get out the door more quickly, and more stylishly,” Tucker stated.

In her quest to creating a community of women who feel empowered after visiting or working with her on her blog, Tucker shared that she recently started a weekly series called “She Styled It.” Each week, a different blogger styles one clothing item in three different ways, and is featured in a blog post.

“I love collaborating with others, and want to give my audience the opportunity to be inspired by a variety of tastes and styles. There is so much creativity out there,” Tucker closed.
