SPRINGFIELD – Pride Stores will be seeking permission a second time to update its market on Longmeadow Street (U.S. Route 5) in Longmeadow.

In 2011 the Longmeadow Planning Board rejected an initial effort to remodel the market.

This new effort involves not just obtaining permission from one community, but two. CEO Robert Bolduc explained to Reminder Publications the current Pride market sits adjacent to the state line.

Pride has purchased the abutting property in Enfield CT, and intends to build a café/bakery with a drive-thru on that property.

The two facilities will be connected so a customer could gas up his or her car and then drive over to the bakery. The current market would not expand over the state line.

Pride would add one more fueling station to the market and redesign the entrances and exit to the facility for better traffic flow. The improvements to the market would have to be approved by Longmeadow officials, while the baker would be approved by Enfield

“After working with both towns for much of 2016 we certainly know the issues on both sides and the final design will be acceptable to both,” Bolduc said.

In a statement released by Bolduc, Enfield Town Planner Roger O’Brien said, “We all know the eyesore and the traffic issues, so whatever we do will be a major improvement. This is our opportunity to fix it and shame on us if we don’t get it done this time.”
