LONGMEADOW – The town’s 5th Annual Charlie Mike 5K Run/Walk is taking place on Nov. 11 this year with a portion of the proceeds going to local veterans.

“Charlie Mike” is a phrase used in the military that means, “continue mission.”  At last years Charlie Mike 5K, Director of Veteran’s Services Lena Vellturo reported that there were 200 runners, not including volunteers, walkers, and family members.  The group raised $7,000 to go toward veterans.

“Annually, our goal is to honor veterans by having a great event, keep costs low, and donate whatever we can,” Vellturo said.

This year, all proceeds from the 5K will benefit the Holyoke Soilders Home and Veterans Inc.

To register for the Charlie Mack 5K, go to https://runsignup.com/Race/MA/Longmeadow.  Race fees are $30 per person, but once Nov. 1 rolls around the fee will increase to $35.  Shifts will be provided for the first 500 individuals registered.  Those who registered can pick up their packets on Nov. 9 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Nov.  10 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Fleet Feet Sports in the Longmeadow Shops.  Packets can also be picked up at 9 a.m. on race day at the event itself.

The Charlie Mack 5K will commence on Nov. 11.  At 10 .m. there will be a Veterans Day Ceremony, and at 11 a.m. the run will begin at Greenwood Park at 231 Maple Rd.  Following the race, there will be food, raffles, vendors and music.  For more information, contact Vellturo at 565-4100 ext. 1403 or lvellturo@longmeadow.org.
