SOUTHWICK – The town of Southwick reported its first three cases of coronavirus on March 27.

In addition, three additional people were self-quarantining. Health Director Tammy Spencer explained that under the definition of self-quarantine, those individuals may or may not be awaiting test results.

“The Southwick Board of Health, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, is continuously monitoring the community for spread of the disease, as well as conducting contact tracing of those that may have been exposed to the virus. While the number of positive cases is currently low, there is an expectation that the number will rise,” Spencer said.

The town of Southwick suspended bulk item and brush drop-off at its Transfer Station until April 7. The Department of Public Works and the Select Board are in the process of developing a new procedure for disposing of bulk and brush items.

Town buildings and playground structures are closed to the public. Grab-and-go meals for senior residents are available through the Southwick Council on Aging and for students through the Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District.

Cold grab-and-go meals for students, which include that day’s lunch and the next day’s breakfast, are available for daily pick up at the Powder Mill School entrance as well as Gran-Val Scoop from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Drive-thru pick-up stations are located outside each building and those picking up are required to remain in their cars.

The town of Tolland is delivering meals to families and is seeking contact information and addresses of those who are in need of meals. Those who wish to receive meals should call the Tolland Town Hall at 258-4794 or email selectmen@tolland-ma.com with the address and the number of children. Tolland meals will include multiple days of cold lunch and breakfast.
