SOUTHWICK – To commemorate the 250th anniversary of Southwick’s incorporation in November 1770, an extensive lineup of community events has been planned by the volunteer Celebrate Southwick 250 Committee.

Organizers are still seeking volunteers, sponsors and donations for the events, which started with the Winter Forest Festival and Tree Lighting Contest and continued with the town’s inaugural First Night celebration for families.

The next event is “Around Southwick II”  presented by Lee Hamberg, a historical presentation on Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at Town Hall, followed by the Winter Carnival, slated for Feb. 15 from 12-5 p.m. at Woodland Elementary School.

Families are encouraged to beat the “Winter Blues” by joining the fun, including winter themed programs and refreshments.

The Food and Pub Crawl is March 14, just ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, and will feature several town establishments where shenanigans are sure to take place. Participants will be driven to each “pub” on a chartered bus.

Other events include Step Into Spring, the Boat Parade (sponsored by Citizens Restoring Congamond), Autumn Pumpkin Festival, Southwick Regional School Reunion Weekend of events, the Grand Parade and the Taste of Southwick Gala.

Celebrate Southwick 250 Chair James Putnam said businesses and individuals are needed to help sponsor or donate to these events.

“Joe Deedy, Russ Fox or I would love to meet with anyone willing to help our community with cash donations, in-kind materials or services or any other resources that will help us,” said Putnam. “And, those who wish to make a small donation via credit card or PayPal are encouraged to do so at SouthwickCivicFund.org . Please be sure to indicate Southwick 250 as the purpose. A check payable to Southwick Civic Fund is also most welcome – again be sure to write Southwick 250 in the memo line.”
