SPRINGFIELD – After being canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, American International College’s (AIC) annual President’s Cup Golf Outing is back on.

The event will take place on June 18 at Wintonbury Hills Golf Club in Bloomfield, CT. There are opportunities for individual registrations, foursomes and sponsorships. All proceeds will directly benefit AIC students through scholarship programs.

According to Jennifer McDonough, interim vice president for institutional advancement, roughly half of the students at AIC are first-generation college students. The college has a demographic of over 50 percent students of color and about half of the student population are PELL-eligible, meaning that their financial circumstances enable them to receive federal grants.

“It’s a great time for people to come together and enjoy each other’s company on behalf of the college, but a very big reason for doing the golf tournament is that the net proceeds support student scholarships at the college,” said McDonough.

Since the President’s Cup Golf Outing began in 2007, the tournament has raised more than $500,000 toward scholarships for AIC students, according to a press release.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast and registration before a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. A BBQ lunch will be served in the afternoon and an awards dinner will conclude the tournament.

There will also be a raffle for people to purchase tickets for or donate to. So far, prizes include golf lessons from AIC’s golf coach, golfing with AIC’s president, dining gift cards, a yearly membership to the Springfield Museums, tickets to the Hartford Yard Goats, gift cards to spas and more. Those interested in donating a raffle item are able to do so until June 11.

McDonough said that she is grateful for the involvement of AIC’s trustees, vendor partners and alumni who support the event. She is most looking forward to the opportunity to help AIC students in need.

“The day is wonderful. And for me, it’s the idea of helping to raise funds. Knowing that this will increase the funds that we can provide to our students and the opportunity to just interact and have conversations and enjoy each other on behalf of the college…It’ll be a great day,” she said.

Those interested in learning more about the President’s Cup, registering for the event or donating a raffle item are encouraged to call 205-3520 or visit their website at www.aic.edu/presidentscup. The deadline for registration is June 11.
