SPRINGFIELD – In 2019, MGM Springfield kicked off their “MGM Live” Summer Concert Series. With the pandemic, MGM made the decision to cancel all concerts and events in 2020. Now, with vaccinations on the rise and COVID-19 restrictions loosening, many residents are wondering if the festivities will resume for the summer of 2021.

According to a representative for MGM Springfield, Isabel Cardona, the future of the Summer Concert Series is still up in the air. However, Cardona did say that the MGM Entertainment Department is working to try and bring it back.

“So far they are in discussion of getting them back, it’s just a matter of how they’re going to be able to enforce COVID-19 social distancing and things like that,” she said.

Concert dates and artists are not currently set in stone and Cardona said she is unsure of when more information will be released to the public.

“Our Entertainment Department is not on-property, they are furloughed because of COVID-19, so it is one of those things that’s fully up in the air as of right now,” she said.

Cardona said that if the Summer Concert Series resumes, they would be the first big events that MGM Springfield has hosted since the beginning of the pandemic.

“We have not hosted anything during COVID-19,” she said.

In previous years, the Summer Concert Series has been hosted outside and on MGM’s back patio, according to Cardona. Given the outdoor air and ability to social distance, this could make it easier for the Summer Concert Series to resume.

In 2019, the Summer Concert Series kicked off in May. Artists performed weekly on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Throughout the course of the summer, there were 24 total performances.
