SPRINGFIELD – In a corner of the new facility built by Orthotics & Prosthetics Lab, Inc. a 3-D print is quietly making part of a custom prosthetic.

The printer sums up the state-of-the art facility that creates custom made prosthetics.

Mayor Domenic Sarno and state Rep. Carlos Gonzalez attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new facility at 3500 Main St. on Feb. 15.

Maria Burke, the company’s business development officer, explained the new facility now has a large area at which they can have a technician help them to use their new limb.

Burke added the company added this area because “people need much attention when experiencing limb loss.”

Burke said the company builds almost every kind of prosthetic, but specializes in lower limb.

She said the company is dedicated to the idea of helping its clients in the long term adjusting to their new limb.

She explained the company – owned by Jim Haas and Blaine Drysdale, former employees  – added additional support staff, including eight peer advisors. These are people who have prosthetic who help new customers. The owners to their patients and what they need, Burke said.

The company has additional offices in Northampton and Pittsfield and has an affiliated company Amped Rehab that provides post surgery physical therapy.
