SPRINGFIELD – Twenty-twenty  has been a year of ups and downs for many. Leanne Sedlak and Kim Brunton-Auger are ending their year on a high note, with the reopening of their spa in a new location.

SkinCatering Salon and Spa celebrated their 10 year anniversary by moving to the first floor of Springfield’s Tower Square. The spa was previously located on the second floor of Tower Square. This move has allowed the spa to expand and begin offering more services.

Sedlak, chief visionary officer, started SkinCatering Salon and Spa in November of 2010. Sedlak is a massage therapist by trade and has a background in sales and customer service. She began her business as a mobile company that would travel to people’s homes to do spray tans, massages and sales for a clean, all-natural skincare company.

“I had three different business cards that had three different things going on and one day I was like this is ridiculous. They all kind of go together and are skin and body related so why don’t I just have a company name where I do all of these things under one umbrella,” said Sedlak.

This is where the idea of SkinCatering Salon and Spa was created. Sedlak continued doing her mobile business for about a year before she found a location she could do her services out of.

Brunton-Auger has been in the aesthetics industry for almost 20 years. She has a degree in Criminal Justice, though when she had children she decided to pursue another career instead. Brunton-Auger said she wanted to get into an industry where she could help people feel good about themselves and enhance their beauty.

Sedlak and Brunton-Auger met at an event for Melanoma Certification. Sedlak was looking for an esthetician to add to the SkinCatering team at the time. After talking to Brunton-Auger, both women realized they were into clean beauty skincare and were aligned in many ways. Brunton-Auger then began working for SkinCatering in May of 2012.

While working with each other, Sedlak and Brunton-Auger started making their own skincare line. This led to them becoming business partners.

“We were both all in at that point,” said Sedlak.

Before their expansion in Tower Square, SkinCatering Salon and Spa offered services such as massages, skincare and body wraps. According to Sedlak, it was always Brunton-Auger’s dream to open a blowout bar. When the first floor of Tower Square became available, neither of them thought about moving. After thinking more about it, both owners changed their minds.

“One day I said to Kim, you know I’d be really mad if somebody came in and did a salon and then decided to make a spa down there too. Why don’t we do that ourselves?” said Sedlak.

SkinCatering Salon and Spa just celebrated their grand opening on Dec. 3. The spa now has a blowout bar with hair services and nail services. Their team consists of 11 employees, with Sedlak and Brunton-Auger included.

To celebrate the opening, SkinCatering Salon and Spa hosted a VIP exclusive event. Local Instagram Influencers were able to come for a private tour of the salon and spend time taking photos and videos.

As a special way to also celebrate their 10 year anniversary, the salon hosted 10 days of deals where they had a special on different services for 10 days.

According to Sedlak and Brunton-Auger, in another 10 years they hope to franchise and expand their business. Their dream, they shared, is to expand into other locations across the state and into other states as well. They would also love to grow their clean, natural skincare line.

Like hundreds of other salons across the state, SkinCatering was forced to close due to COVID-19 in March. Sedlak and Brunton-Auger had to think of a way to stay afloat during this time.

“Luckily because we make our own skincare line, we were able to pivot and make hand sanitizer. It kind of started as a joke, but then we realized ‘Oh, people really can’t get their hands on this.’ So friends were actually asking us if we would make it. So as we were able to get our hands on the ingredients we started making it and selling it and that’s what kept our business afloat to keep the lights on so that our team had a business to come back to when we were able to reopen,” said Sedlak.

SkinCatering Salon and Spa is now looking ahead to brighter days in 2021. The salon and spa offers many memberships to their clients, consisting of massages, blowouts and discounts on other services and products. For the month of January, all membership sign-ups will come with a free gift.

SkinCatering Salon and Spa is open seven days a week. They are open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. When COVID-19 restrictions lift and when the spa hires more staff, they are hoping to be able to stay open later.

Those interested in learning more about SkinCatering Salon and Spa or booking an appointment are encouraged to visit their website at http://skincatering.com/. Those booking group events or multiple services are encouraged to call at 282-8772.

The salon and spa is adhering to all social distancing measures and clients are required to wear a mask during their appointment. According to Sedlak, their spa is spaced out for social distancing and can accommodate small group events.

“It’s fun to be able to get a smaller group of people together for a spa day with your friends,” said Sedlak.
