WARE — The School Committee met on May 24 to discuss the hiring process for a new director of special education.

The committee spoke about the candidate search, conducted by the search committee, and said the search was a good process and they were happy with the candidate pool of 12 individuals.

The search committee had narrowed their choices down to seven candidates for a potential interview, and out of these, five candidates had accepted an interview

The committee reported its members were very pleased with one candidate and are excited about the process of moving forward.

There were two rounds of interviews with two finalists, the committee said, and one candidate was a clear choice for the district. The search committee said the chosen candidate has a strong background in curriculum, which made him stand out. Five total candidates were interviewed.

The top two candidates were Brian Ackerman, currently an assistant superintendent, and Gregory Rosenthal, a special education director in another small district, the committee said.

The School Committee said they were unable to get the information on the candidate’s background or resume and had not yet met them, as the legal restricx`tions on communication prohibited this information to be emailed. Only the search committee had done interviews or a meet and greet the search committee.

The School Committee decided to prolong a vote on the candidate until the next meeting on June 7 when all members could obtain a copy of the final candidate’s resume and background. A meeting with the candidate recommended by the search committee was scheduled with the committee to occur prior to the next meeting.
