WEST SPRINGFIELD – On the weekend of May 10-12 The Arabian Horse Club of Connecticut will host their 46th annual show at the Eastern States Exposition.  The show will take place at the Coliseum and will showcase the talents of many age groups spreading from children to adults.

The Arabian Horse Club features horses that are registered as full Arabian or half Arabian. This year they have changed their regulations allowing more riders to enter in the show who do not have Arabian horses.

The show will begin on Friday at 8 a.m.. and go until 8 p.m., the same hours will take place on Saturday. Sunday it will begin at 8 a.m. and go until 1 or 2 p.m. in the afternoon to wrap up the weekend. The show will display different types of riding style and have a panel of judges who will select winners based on the skill set of the rider on the type of riding style.

The planning for this weekend began about eight months in advance and has been taken over primarily by Victoria Herbst who is now the active treasurer for the group as well. Herbst has been riding Arabian Horses for close to 25 years after being introduced to it as a child.

“Arabians are really versatile horses, they’re loyal. They love their people. This breed is great for showing because they are endurance horses and have beautiful characteristics.” shared Herbst.

Rider and horses will be coming from all over New England, New York and even some travel from Canada to participate.
While competing the riders have a dress code they must follow and the horses are also held to a specific standard as well.

The show is free and open to the public; the barns are also open to the public as well to see the horses up close. The food that is offered through the concession stand at the Coliseum will be on sale the entire weekend of the show.
