WEST SPRINGFIELD – West Springfield Mayor William Reichelt took out nomination papers on April 26, seeking his third mayoral term.

“I love my job, I want to continue working to make West Side a better place especially as we come out of the pandemic and begin to put into place all the initiatives that we had to put on hold over the past year,” Reichelt said.

In a news release, the mayor stated that despite the challenges the city has faced over the past year because of COVID-19, he was excited to announce his pursuit of another term serving the residents of West Springfield. He noted that much of the focus in the past year has been in relation to COVID-19, but there were several years of economic development and growth prior to that, and he looks forward to continuing those trends as the country emerges from the pandemic.

Reichelt has been serving as mayor of West Springfield since Jan. 4, 2016.

If elected for a third term, Reichelt indicated he is committed to focusing on revitalizing downtown West Springfield, continuing to modernize the Town’s business models, investing significantly in infrastructure and schools as well as exploring options for expanded services, such as municipal fiber.

Two candidates have taken out nomination papers for the upcoming election at this point, one being Reichelt, and the other candidate being West Springfield resident Antonio Sorcinelli, who also took out papers for School Committee.

Nomination papers are due back to the Town Clerk by the close of business on July 27.
