WEST SPRINGFIELD – On Sept. 4, theatergoers at the Majestic Theater in West Springfield attended a preview night for the latest production, “The Tuna Goddess.” The cost of admission gave the audience more than just a show. It gave them the chance to help sick kids and their families.

A portion of the ticket price went to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield, a chapter of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. (RMHC-CTWM).

“It’s a very good fundraiser,” said Skochii Bennett-Polchlopek, community engagement coordinator for the charity. “It’s very good exposure for the house.”

The RMHC provides a place for children and their families to stay while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. The Springfield house serves families with children at Baystate Hospital, Shriners Hospital For Children, and Mercy Hospital.

The Majestic’s Producing Director, Danny Eaton, said the theater puts on five productions each year. The Wednesday before the show opens, the Majestic hosts a preview night during which they split the $20 admission with one of several charities they have worked with over the years. There is also a raffle to raise money that night.

This is the third time that the RMHC-CTWM has partnered with the Majestic theater. In 2016, Majestic’s production of “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” raised $1,200 for the charity. The RMHCCTWM pulled in $1,000 during the production of “Crimes of the Heart” in 2017.

“The Tuna Goddess,” written by Jade Schuyler, is the story of a Boston businesswoman who comes home to Chatham to settle her estranged father’s estate only to find he left his prized fishing boat jointly to her and his first mate, her childhood best friend. The show runs at the Majestic Theater until Oct. 13. Call 747-7797 or visit majestictheater.com for showtimes and tickets
