WEST SPRINGFIELD –  Police from the Holyoke Police Department, the West Springfield Police Department and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department served the community in a different way on Jan. 17 at the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s “Tip-a-Cop” event at LongHorn Steakhouse, 1105 Riverdale St. in West Springfield. Law enforcement filled partron’s drinks, bussed tables and chatted with diners from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The “tips” they collected throughout the night were donated to the Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is an international organization that raises money for the Special Olympics. Jan. 17 was the first Tip-a-Cop event West Springfield’s LongHorn Steakhouse has hosted. The Law Enforcement Torch Run’s next event is a polar plunge into the chilly water at Westfield’s Hampden Pond State Park in March.
