WEST SPRINGFIELD/ AGAWAM– Supporting local business is something that the West of the River Chamber of Commerce is proud to say they do. For the last three years the Chamber has hosted a job fair for residents of Agawam and West Springfield. This job fair is open to residents of all ages and has employers from many different local businesses looking to hire qualified people in town.

The job fair will be held at Storrowtown Tavern/ Carriage House on May 22 from 3 to 9 p.m.

Robin Wozniak, the executive Director of West of the River Chamber of Commerce, shared with Reminder Publishing that she loves having the Chamber serve as a “middle man” between the community and these local businesses to help the businesses continue to be successful and to help local people get jobs.

The Chamber also reaches out to all three local high schools and has the senior students take buses to the job fair.

“We want the younger generation to understand the importance of making these face to face connections.” said Wozniak, “This opportunity gets them thinking about the future and how valuable a good resume and a firm handshake can be.”

The goal for this job fair is to show the community that there are plenty of jobs in this area.

“We want residents to stay local, we don’t want them to feel like they need to go to different parts of the state or Hartford or even down South. We want them to see how much is here for them,” commented Wozniak.

In past years, there have been between 25-40 tables filled with business actively looking to hire. Along with tables for the businesses, there are also tables with blank resumes to fill out and tables to fill out applications for jobs right away. Wozniak advices any resident who is interested in coming to bring a pen or pencil to write with, multiple copies of resumes and to dress presentably and professionally.

“You should come thinking, ‘game on.’ You could walk away with a job after this!” said Wozniak.

Some businesses that will have tables at the job fair are; OMG, Inc, Six Flags, Sullivan Paper, Big Y, Lenox/Stanley Black & Decker, Braman Pest Control, Agawam Health Care, Sunshine Village, Cambridge College and U.S. Airforce.

The opportunity is still available for businesses to get involved and have a table at the Job Fair.

“Chamber is a huge advocate of keeping local businesses local, we want them to grow and prosper with local residents as employees!” Commented Wozniak.

The 2019 Job Fair is free of charge for anyone is interesting in attending.
