WEST SPRINGFIELD – With the sun shining and temperatures in the 40s, West Springfield residents enjoyed the 6th Annual Mayoral Carnival on Feb. 16 at the West Springfield Public Library and Mittineague Park.

The day began with a performance at the library by the Tanglewood Marionettes. From there, guests traveled to Mittineague Park to enjoy events such as marshmallow roasting, horse-drawn carriage rides and animal presentations.

At the UNICO Building, Partners Restaurant hosted a free cookout. Activities including face painting, an ice sculpture, interactive craft and play tables, eye exams presented by the West Springfield Lions Club and an interactive bird feeder craft presented by the West Springfield Garden Club were hosted in the building.

Animal Adventures of Bolton presented various animals including a porcupine, lemur and red fox. Tom Ricardi of the Massachusetts Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Facility brought birds big and small to event for guests to observe.

Outside, guests participated in activities including cornhole, a bonfire and marshmallow roasting.

Shuttle vans provided by the West Springfield Council on Aging and Senior Center took guests to each area of the Mayor Carnival. From the UNICO Building, guests were invited to stop by the Tennis Courts to enjoy a Touch-A-Truck event featuring a police cruiser, fire truck and backhoe. Free ice skating was also offered.
