WESTFIELD — The Friends of the Westfield Athenaeum are seeking submissions from the public for a contest to redesign their logo in celebration of their 25th anniversary.

The fundraiser group for the nonprofit library and museum is inviting artists aged 5 and up to submit their own design for their new logo. Each entry will compete in a category based on age group: ages 5-10, 11-13, 14-17, and 18 and over.

Three finalists from each age group will be chosen by members of the Friends, and in March members of the public will be able to vote for their favorite design.
Submissions are due Feb. 28, and can be placed in specially marked boxes at the circulation desks of the Adult and Children’s libraries of the Athenaeum, 6 Elm St., Westfield.

Friends of the Westfield Athenaeum member Heidi Cassell said that the group had a desire to change their logo after having the same design since their inception 25 years ago.

“We were talking about increasing participation among teens, which has already picked up,” said Cassell.

She said that the designs should ideally be 8 by 10 inches, but should look good when shrunk down, as the Athenaeum logo often is. She said entrants don’t need to have previous artistic ability, and that the Friends were hoping to see some participation from local schools.

“We are hoping even Westfield State and all the Westfield schools will participate,” said Cassell.
