WESTFIELD – On Oct. 6, Vivid Hair Salon & Spa will host its first Vivid Cares for Cancer event by offering free makeovers for cancer survivors.

Basia Belz, the salon owner, said the Vivid Cares for Cancer makeover day is the start of something much bigger.

“The Vivid Cares for Cancer event is basically the launch event for the Vivid Cares non-profit,” she said.

While this is the launch event for the non-profit, Belz said the salon has done many community outreach events in the past. “I’ve been trying to get my staff and my clients be more involved in the community, whether it’s doing fundraisers or helping with local food banks. It’s really been a variety of things,” she said.

For the event, Belz said the salon will be offering free custom makeovers that include hairstyling and makeup along with a variety of other activities. She said they will also be offering food, drinks, raffle prizes, pictures by a professional photographer and reiki.

Belz said she started the event because cancer has had a direct impact on her life. She said she lost her grandmother and other family members to various forms of cancer.

“This is why Vivid Cares for Cancer means so much to me and my team. It allows us to help others feel a little more special,” she said in a press release.

She explained the day is all about supporting people that cancer has directly affected and providing them a safe place for the day. “It’s a really fun and empowering day just to kind of get everybody together and just say ‘Hey, we’re here for you, we support you and let’s make you feel good’,” she said.

Belz said the salon is taking in other stylists from across the area to help out for the day. “We are the main host but as a community, we come together. I have stylists coming from Westfield, Chicopee, and Springfield because it really is a powerhouse of uniting for a good cause,” she said.

In addition to bringing in stylists from around the area, the salon is also partnering with local businesses to provide food, drinks and other donations for the event.

As of Saturday the salon was looking for 20 more participants for the free makeovers for the event, interested parties can log onto the Vivid Hair Salon website and sign up there.

Belz said the salon is still looking for professional makeup and hair stylist volunteers and donations for this weekend. Interested parties can call the salon at 564-0062 or send an email to vividcaresforcancer@aol.com.
