WESTFIELD – Westfield State University will be the site of this year’s Glasgow Lands Scottish Festival Concert from 4 to 9:30 p.m. on July 17.  Featured bands include Celtic rock headliner Enter the Haggis, Western Mass. Celtic trio Shindig and folk-Irish band The Gobshites.

Festival organizer Peter Langmore of Blandford said with the changing state restrictions, they were unable to host the full Glasgow Lands Scottish Festival, the second largest in New England, at Look Park this year, but they wanted to keep their name out there, so they approached Westfield State.

“Originally, we were going to have a drive-in concert in the south parking lot,” Langmore said, but with Gov. Charlie Baker’s relaxing of COVID-19 guidelines in late May, the concert will now be outdoors on the green in front of Ely Hall.  Lawn chairs and blankets are recommended.

Gates open at 4 p.m. and music starts at 5 p.m. with Shindig, followed by the Gobshites at 6:15, and Enter the Haggis, 7:30 p.m. until close. Parking is available in the commuter parking lot, and handicap parking is available in the Scanlon lot. WSU is located at 577 Western Ave.

Tickets for the family-friendly event are $25; $10 for children ages 6 to 12 and under 6 free, and are available for purchase at glasgowlands.org.

Food prepared by Westfield State University and beer from New City Brewery in Easthampton will be sold along with soda and water. Volunteers from the Forum House and River Valley Counseling will be selling beer and checking identification. No outside alcoholic beverages are permitted.

The Glasgow Lands Scottish Committee, which has run the festival for 27 years, is a non-profit organization.  Profits after expenses will be donated to the Forum House and River Valley Counseling Service.  Langmore said over the years, the Scottish Festival has given them “a significant amount of money.”

Langmore said Enter the Haggis has played the festival 13 times. “They started when the Festival was at Stanley Park and have a lot of fans in this area,” he said, adding that normally they play four shows at the Iron Horse over New Year’s Eve and the day before, but weren’t able to last year. “They haven’t played in this area for a year and a half. They have a big following,” he said.

Sponsors for this year’s event include Al’s Tire and Auto Repair in Westfield, Firtion-Adams Funeral Service and Westfield Bank. For more information, go to glasgowlands.org or contact Peter Langmore at 505-9086.
