WESTFIELD – The fall semester for members of the Young Singers of Greater Westfield will look “a bit different” due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to artistic director Kerry Cipoletta.

“We are all eager to be back in person making music safely and hope to do so in the spring,” said Cipoletta, noting the choir brings together students in grades 5 to 8 who rehearse weekly to develop vocal skills, musical literacy, and a “beautiful choral sound.”

Cipoletta said to ensure that students continue to make music and build community, she will offer four free virtual music get-togethers this fall.

“We will play musical games, have virtual sing-alongs and continue to grow as musicians,” she said.

While a formal concert will not be conducted this semester, Cipoletta said students will have the ability to submit musical offerings to be featured on its social media platforms.

The virtual get-togethers are planned Oct. 21, Nov. 4 and 18, and Dec. 2, all from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Benefits of joining the group are numerous, according to Cipoletta, including experiencing an eclectic mix of “exciting repertoire,” enhancing one’s musical knowledge and skills, singing and having fun with other talented students, building a sense of community, and providing an outlet for self-expression.

“Our mission is to promote the choral art and enrich the lives of area youths by instilling a lifelong love of music through performance and education,” said Cipoletta.

Though tuition is free for this semester, Cipoletta welcomes donations to support the organization. Checks can be mailed to Young Singers of Greater Westfield, P.O. Box 2011, Westfield, MA 01086.

For parents who would like more information, emails can be sent through the organization’s website, ysgw.org.

To enroll a student, Cipoletta requests that parents complete a Google form at forms.gle/U9GvcepsTssGTBSx8.
