HAMPDEN – Boston Bruins fans get ready – the Hampden Public Library will be hosting the team’s mascot, Blades the Bruin, on July 24.

The Boston Bruins are one of the sponsors for summer reading programs across Massachusetts, and each year libraries can apply for a visit from the mascot. Out of roughly 350 libraries in Massachusetts, the Hampden Public Library is having one of a dozen visits.

This years summer reading program theme is, “Libraries Rock” which has been incorporating music into their programming over the summer.

Youth Services Librarian Kate Rumplik told Reminder Publications that the mascot will be at the library for story time, games and pictures with kids. The group will be reading “Up The Creek” by Nicholas Oldland. Children and their families are welcome to come to the library at 2 p.m. for the festivities. Gift bags will be provided for the kids by the Bruins.
