HAMPDEN – Support for the Laird Family continues to pour in.

The Lairds, who lost their home on Potash Hill Lane to a devastating fire on Feb. 13, have been the beneficiaries of a GoFundMe page, the money from which is intended to ease the burden of starting over.

In its first week, the campaign raised more than $6,000. As of Feb. 22, nearly 120 donations has been received, totalling almost $7,500, with all but four donations from individuals in the amount of $100 or less.

Now the Hampden Federated Church is putting its efforts toward a more material effort.

According to a Facebook event entitled “Help for the Laird Family,” posted by the church, the family is now in need of items for its new temporary home.

“We received word that the Lairds are looking into renting a home in Hampden in the near future (hopefully the next week),” the update posted Feb. 22 read. “They are very thankful for all of the support they have received to date. It is a bit overwhelming to say the least. There are some items needed to help them settle into their new digs.”

The church is seeking donations of kitchen supplies and toiletries, including kitchen utensils, pots and pans, plates, bowls, glasses and mugs, trash bags, cleaning products, paper goods, dish towels, coffee and tea pots, brooms and mops, bathing items such as soap, shampoo and conditioner, and face cloths and towels.

The family is also in need of bedding and pillows and lamps for bedrooms and pet supplies, such as food and water dishes and a dog bed for the family’s yellow labrador.

Clothing and shoes are also sought, specifically shoes, size 3 for a girl and 2 for a boy; girls clothing, size 10 to 12; boy clothing, size 8 to 10; and pants (size 31 waist) and shirts (medium) for a 16-year-old boy.

Donations will be received at the church, 590 Main St., Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon, and Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 to 8 p.m.

A complete list of needed items can be found at www.facebook.com/events/1023232391070461. For more information, contact the church office at 566-3711.
