Minnechaug Regional High School sophomore Jamison Rohan wanted to show her concern over the school shooting in Florida and quickly organized a two-hour standout in the center of Wilbraham on Feb. 21.

Working with the Town Democratic Committee, she gathered students, parents and teachers at Crane Park to make a statement to passing motorists, some of who sounded their horns in support.

Rohan explained to Reminder Publications that when she first heard the news of the event that left 17 dead, she thought, “It’s was just another school shooting.” Later she explained she started crying when she heard more of the “heartbreaking story.”

She started Twitter hash tag #ContinueTheConversation in the hopes of making sure “this story doesn’t die out.”

She added, “We have to keep talking about it, even it it’s hard.”

Rohan said she is considering organizing an event at the high school for the national day of school walkouts on March 24 and said she would work with the school’s administration to make it happen.

“We have to make sure this conversation doesn’t end,” she said.
