WILBRAHAM – Cumberland Farms has been a household name among families in New England, New York and Florida; the chain has expanded predominantly since the 1980s. With its extensive store menu and products, convenient fueling pumps and competitive gas prices, Cumberland Farms locations continue to open along the upper East Coast, with one hosting their grand opening last week in Wilbraham.
The Haseotes family started Cumberland Farms in 1939. It started as a single cow dairy farm, which eventually developed into the largest dairy farm in Southern New England. Cumberland Farms opened its first dairy store in Bellingham, Massachusetts, in 1958. They then expanded their franchise further by opening their first convenient store in 1962. The family continued their successful business between dairy farm and convenient store for 30 years before they embarked in a partnership with Gulf Oil Company to sell gas at their stores as well. Now Cumberland Farms often goes by a modern name of Cumby’s. There are roughly 600 locations across 11 states, which include Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, New York and Florida. Originally the Cumberland Farms logo included the colors navy blue and orange but with the modern changes the logo has been remodeled with the colors navy blue and green.
Since 2009, Cumberland Farms has remodeled or opened over 330 new locations and donated over $450,000 to community organizations all over the Northeast and Florida.
“As we have passed the halfway point in our efforts, we could not be happier with the response we’ve received from the community. We’re looking forward to bringing our new stores and menu items to all of the communities in which we serve, and to raising even more money for our local partners along the way,” said CEO of Cumberland Farms, Ari Haseotes.
On Dec. 11 a ribbon cutting ceremony welcomed the public to the new Wilbraham store located at 105 Post Office Park. The ribbon cutting was the kick off for a four–week long fundraiser for Scantic Valley YMCA. The Scantic Valley YMCA is an organization that is dedicated to serving needs of the community in greater Springfield. The YMCA provides programs that promote lifelong personal growth. Throughout the fundraiser, 10 cents from all dispensed beverages purchased at the location will go to The YMCA.
The Wilbraham location falls under what they are calling “The Next Generation Store”. The next generation stores have new architectural features and a modernized layout. Along with the new structural changes they also are offering many new food and beverage options, this includes smoothies, frozen espresso, and milkshakes, as well as specialty coffee drinks including espresso, cappuccino and lattes. The expanded food menu features a variety of specialty items, including ciabatta sandwiches and Mac N' Cheese Bites. All of these items can be ordered quickly on self-service ordering terminals. The store also has many other unique features such as interior high top bar counters, outdoor patio seating, four fueling pumps and 32 parking spaces.
